| Every so often an experience
comes along that completely changes your life. This was one of them.
Of the thousands of applicants who apply to
this program each year, about 40 are accepted, based on a sample script they
have written and a personal interview. I was, in a word, ecstatic when
I learned I was among those selected.
My participation in the 1999 Warner Bros.
Writers Workshop was a terrific experience. In addition to getting
practical information about the craft of script writing, those of us who
were fortunate enough to be selected for this prestigious program had the
opportunity to learn from showrunners of current primetime programs and sit
in on actual table readings. It was an invaluable experience.
Within six months of finishing the
workshop, I had a new agent. Soon after that I began writing for Sony
Pictures Television International's German sitcom, Rita's World
-- a gig that continued for five years.
